Femoral Shaft Fracture | ORIF [CN-221231]

A 52 years old female fell on slippery ground. Following the fall she developed severe pain in her left lower limb & was unable to stand or since then. She was morbidly obese, diabetic, hypertensive, hypothyroid & had dislipidemia. She was admitted on the same day. She fractured her left femur on mid shaft.

Her co-morbid conditions made surgical intervention critical. She had poor glycemic control. She was operated after proper evaluation. Open Reduction & Internal Fixation was done with Interlocking Intramedullary Titanium Nail (ILIM).

She developed bed sore. Her hospital stay was prolonged with other complications like respiratory tract infection. She was treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics and O2 administration. Instead of all precautions bed sore increased in size. After weeks of intensive treatment she recovered.

At 2 months follow up, her bed sore was healed, fracture healing was satisfactory and her co-morbid conditions were under control.
